They were one of the great live bands, the Police. I saw them many times in the late seventies and early eighties and they were absolutely dynamic on-stage. They made their first television appearance on the Old Grey Whistle Test just after they did...well Top Of The Pops and the Old Grey Whistle Test came more or less at the same time, and I remember absolutely vividly them coming into the studio to do the Whistle Test because we had a researcher who had arrived on the programme at the time called Jill StClair, and when she arrived she said 'I've got this great band, I've seen this fantastic band we have to put them on the programme they're called the Police'. And it was about three or four weeks later that they actually came in to do the show. They were just dynamic, I thought they were fabulous. |
