Whisperers may like to know that there's an excellent new dedicated roots/Americana venue at Saltaire, Bradford - it's called The Live Room, and is the brainchild of my old chums, the ever-energetic Ron Dukelow and Hilary Booth, who for many years up to 2007 ran the legendary Cambria Arts Live at The Talbot gigs at Tregaron in mid-Wales. The Live Room kicks off in May with the wonderful Jackie Oates Band, and other acts already booked for 2012 include Dick Gaughan, Cahalen Morrison & Eli West, Malcolm Holcombe, Danny Schmidt & Carrie Elkin, Kreg Viesselman, and Gregory Alan Isakov ... lots more in the pipeline, Ron tells me! This looks like a venture that deserves the support of all Whisperers within striking distance of Bradford. There's already an excellent website, where you can check out the artists, book tickets, and sign up to the mailing list: http://www.theliveroom.info

That sounds exciting and with some great musicians lined up. Bradford is only, relatively speaking, down the road from me just over 150 miles. So allowing for A/M1 traffic, a mere 8/9 hour drive away. More, even .
But really, it's good to hear of a new live music venue opening rather closing. Once I get clearance to travel will be trying to catch up as much live-music as possible.
Missed the country show this evening, looking forward to catching up.

Hi Andrew,

I got my Malcolm Holcombe tix as soon as I saw the announcement!
The guy is a real original. "Not quite country, somewhere beyond folk, Holcombe's music is a kind of blues in motion, mapping backwoods corners of the heart." ~David Fricke- Rolling Stone Magazine

Just heard today from Ron Dukelow that he's booked the very wonderful Oh Susanna to appear at The Live Room on 23 November ... Looks like November's going to be a dream month for Whisperers within striking distance of Bradford!

Thanks for the mentions and yes, should be a great November here in Saltaire.
Glad you're coming along to the Malcolm gig Tincanman - have you seen him before? He's something else live. Give us a shout when you get here, Hilary will be greeting people on the front desk and I'll be on the mixing desk.
Isobel, perhaps make it a weekend in Saltaire for one of the gigs! The village is great, with a beautiful park and walks along the canal, and you've also got Bronte country just up the road in Haworth.

Thanks rondukelow, I will remember that Hadn't realised that Saltaire was in the Bronte region.
Sounds a really exciting venue too.

I'm shamelessly using a sneaky tactic to bring this thread back up to the top ... Don't forget that tomorrow, Friday 4 May, is the first-ever gig at this excellent new roots venue, featuring current folk darling Jackie Oates and her wondrous band. Having worked alongside Ron Dukelow & Hilary Booth for many years on the famed 'Live at The Talbot' gigs here in mid-Wales (by common consent, 'The Best Roots Venue in Wales'), I just know that they have poured their all into The Live Room - with their experience and energy, nothing will be left to chance. It would be great if all Whisperers within striking distance of Saltaire showed up tomorrow, to get things off to a flying start ... creating a new regular venue for 'our kind' of music is a brave move in these uncertain times, so get yourselves down to The Live Room tomorrow and show Ron and Hilary the support their new venture deserves. |

Thanks Andrew for the support and mention. Yes, it's all coming together, tickets are going well and there's lots of enthusiasm. We're looking to go that bit further in giving the stage to some new artists and projects outside the comfort zone. We've always liked taking a chance, so for those that like a challenge, do come along and hopefully we'll give you some special nights.
