Only heard this today but does anyone who is performing 'Stand By Me' on the new Nationwide advert?

Didn't catch whether it was advertising a particular programme but BBC played a version of 'Sound Of Silence' last night - any ideas appreciated? Both this and the advert were female singers.

I just googled the Nationwide advert, sadly enough

, and found it on you tube, out of curiosity. Sounds to me like someone they got in just to cover the song for the ad, because there is quite a substantial gap for V/O, it's not really the song being played more just a couple of excerpts from it. I don't know, but her voice is very good.

That song is so catchy had to listen on you tube to an established version when I saw it mentioned.

Your guess is as good as mine as to why they can't just say who it is - are Nationwide about to unleash themselves on the music industry?

Could be with all this banking/finance crisis, perhaps the Nationwide feel a music business career might be more reliable.

Seriously, I don't know, it's slightly irritating the way they've used that song.

I like the 'Silence' cover you linked.

Saw the advert last night (I don't watch much on ITV) and was intrigued straight away.

Here's the official word from Nationwide;

"She is Swedish singer Olivia S. Search for Oliviaisme on MySpace to find her site. We're working on getting the track released for download"

That is quite funny - Ian was right, Nationwide are about to launch themselves on the music industry

Her voice is very good, it's unusual for an advert to lead to a release of a song cover, rather than just using the song for commercial.

Now on itunes - prepare to be massively disappointed. You may even wonder if it is the same song. Well done to whoever did the cherry picking.

Strange, her voice sounded OK on the advert, I wonder what they did to it, judging by your comment. I haven't visited itunes to hear yet!
