Really can't stop playing the track STRAIGHT UP AND DOWN from the Brian Jonestown Massacre cd - Take It From The Man. There are 2 versions on the cd, one clocking in at about 4 mins 28 and the other tripping out at about 11 mins to close the album. I love it

I have the 1st album and For Your Pleasure on lp and cd and Stranded and Flesh & Blood on lp. After that the band just passed me by but my wifelet must have all the rest of their stuff and she recently bought that 10cd box set. Are there any bands out there that our Whisperers wouldn't touch with a bargepole? I could name a few.
I was toying with the idea of going to see Roxy Music on the last tour, but wasn't prepared to pay the ludicrous prices at the O2 for rubbish seats at the back. They seem to be in the Van Morrison camp for ticket prices.
I have the recent vintage live album on CD, and had Manifesto and Flesh and Blood on vinyl at the time they came out. Out of the Blue is a cracking song in my opinion but they seem to be a bit of an acquired taste.
Definitely an acquired taste and I absolutely couldn't stand Ferry's effete voice when they first came on the scene. Virginia Plain - what was that all about? However, they mellowed and so did I. The only album I own is Avalon but I have come to regard it as an all-time classic.
back in the day in my case [ teenage days !] mid 70s ! saw roxy play a number of times,each tour bryan dressed in a different guise ! i remember one tour i hired a local minibus with driver & 12 of us went off to hammersmith odeon [ stranded tour maybe] in those days you dressed up not down,excellent show,next morning back to skool.

Bought this on vinyl last week John and I think I'll have to buy the cd also. It's quite excellent. Why didn't anyone try and get him back into the studio years ago. Well done to the label Dead Oceans for putting the cash up and to Joshua Henry who approached him with the offer to make the record. Dead Oceans also agreed to Fay's stipulation that his royalties go to the charity Medecins Sans Frontieres.
The June Tabor & The Oyster Band album Ragged Kingdom has to be the best folky album I've listened to for a long time. Even the sleeve and artwork are spot on. A job to pick out a best track as they are all good. Think I'll go for the June Tabor box set ALWAYS and get it directly from her web site as it seems to be quite difficult to obtain elsewhere.
Another song that's really getting to me. From The Coal Porters album Find The One, their cover of Bowie's HEROES. Saw them doing this live last week and the power and emotion that came out of it live was quite electric. Nice vocals from Neil Robert Herd in a great little band fronted by Sid Griffin of Long Ryders fame. Go and see them if you can.
From the Tom Waits album Bad As Me, the 2nd track RAISED RIGHT MAN. After his previous release Real Gone which was really heavy going, this album is much easier on my ear. Tom goes MOR? Not quite. We are getting some great releases from the old guys at the moment who are really coming up with the goods. Tom Waits, Patti Smith, Van Morrison, Bob Dylan, Mark Knopfler, Bill Fay, Garland Jeffreys, Tom Jones (check out Tom's version of Bad As Me on his album Spirit In The Room). What's goin' on?
Couldn't agree more Ian. Another oldie release I'm really looking forward to is Neil Young - Psychedelic Pill. Double cd with some pretty long workouts on both discs.
Ah yes jrn, I love it when Neil Young rambles on a bit . Cortez The Killer must be my favourite Neil Young song of all time. Have still not bought Americana because of the God Save The Queen track as it really grates on me, but for just the one bad track why am I moaning.
