Broadcasting legend Bob Harris has announced he is leaving BBC Radio 2, weeks after revealing his prostate cancer has spread to his spine.

The DJ, who has been on the airwaves since 1970, told listeners he was "so sorry that my health issues are forcing me to step down, but I realised that I must concentrate now on getting myself well again".

Whispering Bob once again co-hosted this year’s O2 event - this time with Texan country music artist, Mickey Guyton.

Bob hosted a special edition of The Country Show on BBC Radio 2 on 11th April to mark 25 years at the helm.

It’s just over a week since he compered the annual C2C country music festival and Bob Harris chuckles when Total TV Guide asks him about how hard liquor and a US singer-songwriter led to him getting his first ever tattoo, aged 77.

Encouraged by a 23-year-old country musician Jackson Dean, the broadcaster now sports new ink on his right wrist.
